Elements like Silicon are considered as a boon to the technology sector and humanity as a whole. On the other hand, elements like Uranium are capable of causing nuclear disasters. So here are some more lesser known facts about the wonderful world of Elements.

1. The element Krypton is a non-toxic killer. It is an asphyxia inducing agent which displaces or reduces the normal Oxygen concentration in breathable air.

2. Strontium is used in the production of sugar from molasses. Most of the Strontium used in the process of making sugar is recyclable.

3. Zinc was used in India thousands of years before it's use in China. While the Chinese started it's use only in 1637, the metal was used mined and smelted in the Indian subcontinent in the 4th century BCE.

4. The murderer's poison in the novel 'The Pale Horse' by Agatha Cristie, was Thallium. Agatha Cristie was a pharmacist and mystery writer. The 1st clue of it's toxicity was the hair loss in the victims.

5. Palladium is biologically inactive to an extent, yet it can cause allergic reactions in some people.

6. Of all the radioactive isotopes of Niobium, the half life of the most stable isotope is 34.7 million years. It means that it will take 34.7 millions years to decay and get reduced to half. 

7. Selenium was discovered in 1817 by the Swedish chemist Jöns Jacob Berzelius.

8. Barium compounds are highly poisonous. Barium powder can ignite spontaneously in air.

9. Only 1 pound of Tellurium is produced from the refining of more than 550 tonnes of Copper.

10. Mercury's symbol comes from the Latin word 'Hydrargyrum', meaning Liquid Silver.

Elements are the building blocks of life and human innovation. It is true that in some cases, they are proved to be deadly however, their proper use can make astounding advancements in the field of science and technology.
